Baby Stats

Since my sister was posting about her kids check ups and I don't really have a baby, I thought I would tell a little about me when I was a baby.

All this is from my somewhat assembled baby book, so if the information is wrong you can blame my momma!

Born at 11:36AM
Weight was 7lbs 10oz.
Length was 20" (or basically 28% of my current height!)

For notable achievements I slept through the night at 4 weeks. I started eating cereal at 12 days and baby food at 17 days. (I hope CPS isn't reading this) And finally I held my breath when I was mad at 1 week old. (I still win almost every breath holding contest I enter)

To compare, at 7 weeks old I was 11lbs 12oz and 23" in length. What percentile is that?? And at one year old I was 30lbs and 32".

I think this next "fact" is in error though, my baby book states I could sit up alone at 6 months when here I have photographic proof I could sit up at 9 weeks!!! (Well maybe not so much sit up as being perched forward onto my stomach. The one full of baby food at 9 weeks old)

It is soooo hard to say,

"Goodbye."

They are teenagers and thus hide their emmotions well. It is never cool to be all lovey with your parents at that age. But for me, it is sooo hard to say goodbye at the airport. I wish they were with me all the time.

Being a part time parent is no fun.

Eeearthqqqqquake

Yesterday we had a mild earthquake. I have been in at least 18 of them in my life so it was not an unfamiliar feeling.

Fortunately nothing was damaged in our house or even in the county. Other times I have not been so lucky and So-Cal is lucky it was not another Northridge quake.

I was actually in jiu jitsu when it happened and someone said, "Oh man! Do you feel that earthquake?!" We just thought he was trying to make a joke about slamming someone or doing a particularly awesome move. Once we all stopped and stared we all felt it too. Very brief but the building was definitely moving!

Disneyland Dad

Sometimes I think I am a Disneyland dad. You know, the type of non-custodial parent who is all fun and games but no responsibility. I think this happens due to my natural tendency to have fun and the infrequency of visits due to geographic constraints.

Of the things I can remember, this week we have:
-shooting in the desert
-lunch in Julian
-fireworks show at Seaworld
-movies to see the Dark Knight
-pizza from Oggi's
-multiple clothes shopping trips
-book buying from B&N
-visiting Birch Aquarium
-renting movies and having snacks at home
-beach day of surfing and boogie boarding
-two jiu jitsu classes
and that is all I can remember over the past 4 and 1/2 days, I am sure there is more!!

Still to come are:
-indoor rock climbing gym
-another movie
-more clothes shopping
-Phil's BBQ dinner

All this over an 8 day visit. I better never ever hear any complaining out of them about "we never do anything."

Thank you sir, may I have another

Without notice, my division was moved from Saturday to Sunday for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament this weekend. Without notice.

Months of extra practice, going twice a day, losing 6lbs, less time with my family and now all for naught.

Good form organizers, good form.

Not Just Words

"Action is the best response to misfortune" is one of the maxims I really feel is worth following.

My first exposure to it was in an UK motorcycle magazine, go figure. The author had realized his dream of writing for motorcycle publications and then in his late 20's developed a degenerative ocular disease and was slowly going blind. As his vision deteriorated he rode what was going to be his last track day, with his father. Up until he was physically unable he was proactive and enjoyed what he loved doing.

A physical disease was his misfortune and continuing to work and enjoy his favorite hobby for absolutely as long as possible was his responding action.

I hope a true version of myself is the same way, using action in response to misfortune. If you read my previous post you know I am jobless. (What is it San Diego??) So rather than pout and whine and bemoan another setback, I have a plan of action to see me through. Short term and long term action!

For the low low price of $49.95 you to can have an action plan! Cash or Pay-Pal. Do it today!! Act now!!

The 3rd worst day this year!!!

The list for this week is all about my worst days this year. Excited? Ready?

Worst Days of 2008
1. 2-14-08 Going into the hospital on Valentines Day super sick and ending up there for two weeks straight and losing my job.

2. 7-9-08 Having someone land on my foot during a take-downs drill and totally throw my training off for my first tournament and also slow me down at work and cause me to use all my sick and vacation time.

3. 7-22-08 Having to resign at work rather than be let go due to my inability to really learn and do my new job. I have a materials background and just could never wrap my head around machines. So I left rather than fight a losing battle and eventually be let go. Part two is being over a hour late to the airport to pick up J K and M due to work issues. Part three, thinking it was Wednesday and going to jiu jitsu at the wrong time and totally missing training and K's first lesson due to my inability to even know the correct day of the week. (I really needed this training session too with the tournament only days away)

Stay tuned next month loyal readers! Can he beat Bad Day #2? What other amazingly crappy thing will happen to our hero????????????????

Mine is the USGP at Laguna Seca. I was wearing my Rossi shirt and he finally won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Winning at a track he had previously never won on.

It was by far the most exciting MotoGP race this year. Check it out at www.superbikeplanet.com or www.cyclenews.com or www.motogp.com

8 more days

8 more days till fight time!! I will have the video up a few days after, good, bad, ugly or trophy.

And I will have D. J. K. and M. there to cheer me on!!

Shiftless

I don't know where I get it from...but I am feeling restless. Things have become too easy, too complacent, too commonplace and just too boring.

Too much of living life right now for me is on autopilot.
And I hate it.

We moved a bit as kids, I have no friends from childhood or high school. Only one person from college and we talk maybe once a year. I have only kept a job for more than 18 months once in my life (in the past 18 years).

I had so so luck at relationships, so that is at least good! I've had girlfriends and wives for at least a few years, though with some interruption.

I just have this gnawing inside, an aching need for something new and exciting.

Maybe it is my foot and being laid up and slowed down, but this feeling has been building for a while.

I know this is crazy, but hear me out. In just my wild frantic brainstorming I seem to have come up with
-Go back to Iraq, but for only 6 months
-Move to be closer to the kids
-Quit my job and work on my novel and website. But REALLY work at them.
-Convince D. to take me to a foreign country
-Go back to school to be a physicians assistant

I don't know..... Anyone who knows me, do you have any insight??

He was a scary bear, he was a hairy bear

I let this bear give me a massage.

I let this bear sit on my head.

Guess I need to unpack my adjectives:

Yeah, that was good. Now...-The Ladies Man

A thong that says "Rowdy" is something everyone needs. Well maybe not everyone......though my rear end isssssssssssss pretty sexy.

Hey Marlo, where's my $20?????

Overheard in Allied Gardens

"I'm OK with my front, but my rear could be firmer." Overheard from a couple on their bike ride. Whether it pertains to tire pressure, suspension or body fat the world may never know.......

"Some retard must have done that." The unknowing neighbor of Mr. Motorhomelovesfirehydtrant when she was try to figure out how the fire hydrant on her street was knocked over.

"You shouldn't leave your gun on the front porch." First words out my home teachers mouth this month.

"Pedro quiere mirar los chonis de Josephina" My attempt of making a funny sentence based on a odd picture in Spanish class.

"Yeah right! That box of Hot Tamales won't last you through the day, let alone till the end of the month!" D. to me at the grocery store. (It lasted me two days thank you very much)

"This guys got a broken foot and he is gonna go! What's your excuse?" K.H. to the rest of the brazilian jiu jitsu class.

Thar she blows...OR...The great white motorhome's revenge

Clue #1 Scooby, a river of water flowing down the street. Where is it coming from? This man decided backing out his 31' (not including the trailer hitch) motorhome in a hurry was a good idea this morning. "What did you do this morning hunny? Fight any crime?"
"No, I just directed traffic again. I was ready to Taser any of those lookie-lous though!!" And the city water folks took 3 tries to turn off the water to the hydrant. The one nearest the hydrant had over a foot of dirt and silt in it, preventing them from doing more than taking the cap off. Hey, but I bet they are earning overtime! The money shot.

Das Boot

Well, me and my new friend "Bootsie" went to the ocean today!! We also brought our new found friends, the "Crutchy" twins.

Sadly, we could only watch A. and T. surf while the 4 of us sat in a chair and dodged two frisbees and one soccer ball. And only witnesseed one sandcastle destroying meltdown of a child. (cue Simpson's show "haha" laugh)

Bootsie seems to really like to collect sand and doesn't take to well to being towel dried.

The Crutchy twins did suprsisingly well and I even convinced one of them to go stand in the water with me for a few minutes.

(really people, you act like youv'e never seen a guy on crutches standing in the ocean before!!!)

ps-the swelling has increased markedly. I can not even fit a flip flop on my left foot!!

Rowdy in boots

So I was in brazilian jiu jitsu class last night, doing a judo throw drill, when I dumped a person over my head and shoulders and onto my flexed left foot!!!

A loud pop and me dropping to the floor in agony, moaning and holding my left foot. Fabio came and checked it out and we determined it was not broken. Though I did have two toes that were severely out of joint, so holding my ankle he pulled sharply on each one and "popped" them back into place. Fun. =)

So after my xrays and exams this morning I am on crutches through the weekend and in a 'boot' for one to two weeks, depending on how I heal.

Tournament on July 26th.........?? Looking doubtful. I am going to try and train, from the knees, next week and then just tape my fore foot totally immobile when the tournament comes.

Pics to follow.

Baseball, Apple Pie, Chevrolet

Those were at one time the "All American" triumvirate. Well, since it was the 4th of July weekend you HAVE to do something All American.

Like most people that involves a backyard bbq. And I did!! Yumm yumm delicious.

Happy Independence Day!

no more needles, no more pokes, no more b12 in my glutes

Wooo Hooo. So when I was in the hospital for two weeks in February of this year my GI doctor and I were discussing some different things and thought we would try something out. When I had surgery when I was 15 I had the part of my small intestine taken out that absorbs vitamin B12 from food. I could have eaten a pound of B12 and it would have done me no good.

B12 is a pretty important vitamin. Without it the symptoms are: Common early symptoms are tiredness or a decreased mental work capacity, decreased concentration and decreased memory, irritability and depression.

Sleep disturbances may occur, because B12 may be involved in the regulation of the sleep wake cycle by the pineal gland (through melatonin)[1].

Neurological signs of B12 deficiency, which can occur without anemia, include sensory disturbances due to damage to peripheral nerves caused by demyelination and irreversible nerve cell death. Symptoms include numbness, tingling of the extremities, disturbed coordination and, if not treated in time, an ataxic gait, a syndrome known as subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord.

B12 deficiency can also cause symptoms of mania and psychosis.[2][3]

Recent studies have devalued a possible connection between B12 deficiency and Alzheimer's dementia, and such a correlation is unlikely as of June 2007.[4]

Studies showing a relationship between clinical depression levels and deficient B12 blood levels in elderly people are documented in the clinical literature.[5] and 2002 [6]

Bipolar disorder appears to genetically co-segregate with the hereditary B12-deficiency disorder pernicious anemia [7][8]. (taken from www.wikipedia.org)

To deal with this deficiency I had been giving myself injections, into the muscle in my leg, arm or buttocks once every 3 or 4 weeks. I have been doing that for 20, yes twenty, years! Hmm, that is...only like at least 240 injections extra for me compared to anyone else!

So my doctor and I were just chit chatting and he said, "I don't know why you have to do the B12 injections, maybe you should try taking a sublingual supplement. Let's have you do that for 2 or 3 months and then see what your levels are at."

Well ladies and gentlemen, I went to the lab early before work and the results yesterday show completely normal levels of B12 in my blood. Wooo Hooo.

No more needles, no more pokes, no more b12 in my glutes!

San Diego drivers

San Diego drivers were rated the 2nd safest of cites with a population greater than one million. (We were beaten out for the #1 spot by Pheonix) Drivers in San Diego average an accident every 9.3 years or so.

The number one city for safest drivers was Souix City South Dakota, averaging an accident every 14.6 years!! Wow. Having been to the Dakotas I think I know their sectret...

IT TAKES THEM 14.6 YEARS JUST TO GET ANYWHERE!!!

Revolutionary New Surgery

I need to be 136lbs by July 26th. So while I can exercise and diet to achieve my results, others can not.

In the moments where you are trying to find a TV channel with no commercials I happened upon a sort of infomercial about the banding surgery around people's stomachs. The focus was on how wonderful this works for people.

To me though it seems to be aiming at the wrong source of 'the problem'. It is not that you need a smaller stomach, it is that you need a smaller opening to actually put the food through!!

This revolutionary, painless, do-it-yourself surgery will cut your food intake down by 50% in just minutes of your time!! Here is what you do; take one tube of Superglue and apply a small bead from one corner of your mouth to the center. Close your mouth for one to two minutes and then the surgery is complete!!

Now you have the latest, cheapest, most direct way to reduce your caloric intake, reduce the size of your cake hole.
