Whenever I see those "Not of this World" stickers on the back window of a car it does nothing but irritate me!
One, it seems like a vain pronouncement of some sort of superior self-knowledge in their Christianity. I hate to break it to you, but we are of this world. If you believe God created it why would you want to seperate yourself from it?
The world is not bad. Frankly it is your fellow man who is bad. But then would you drive around with a sticker that even more accurately stated a message of, "I beleive differently than you and I feel that due to that I am special, better than you and will get to Heaven while you probably won't. Most likely cause your Anglican, Mormon (LDS is a better shorthand), Seventh Day Adventist or whatever."
So here we are, all living in a world God created for us. (assuming you believe that for the sake of this argument) And also we are all God's children. Follow the plan, return to be with God in Heaven. Isn't that your whole reason for how you live?
But then we have the bad guys. Real and spiritual who don't want you to reach said goal, either through malice or laziness or a desire to have others share their misery in this life, and possibly the next. Opposites in life, good and evil. There has to be both.
Driving along in your black Suburban with your big NOTW sticker in the back you are thinking, I am not a part of this world. I am part of the people who reject worldliness and focus on Christ-like living.
Well you know what? If all you do is seperate yourself and worry about yourself you are falling far short of that mark. Re read the New Testament.
Your goal really should be not to seperate yourself from the world but to be a net positive gain in it. To have the ammount of "good" you do outweigh the amount of 'bad' around you, the things that make you feel you shouldn't be of this world.
You're right, you are not of this world. You are from a spiritual one but you live here, spirit and body combined on an Earth made just for you. So start living in it and start doing good!
(not driving around with a silly platitude stickered to the back of your SUV)
