Before college I had a room mate named Martin. Martin's nickname was "Martini" due to his excessive ETOH consumption. In spite of that, he had a reasonable head on his shoulders for things and eventually went on to become an officer in the US Army.
Well, at the time we were living together I had a very tempestuous relationship, major drama as they say. Fear paralyzed me and I constantly avoided doing things that though hard, would have helped me then.
Martini in a stupor one morning told me to do, "Feared first. Do the thing you fear or hate or worry about the most FIRST. Get it done and you will feel better." My modus opurendi at that time was to do the thing I feared most dead last, if at all.
And then I tried it.
And it worked.
K. has expressed a desire to live here. So I had to make a phone call about it. My parasympathetic nervous system was raging this morning. I tried doing other things, but I just couldn't focus. So I made the call.
Did I get an immediate solution? No. Did everything go how I wanted? No. But I feel better, I started the process and I hopefully did the right thing.
Thanks Martini.
