Beach Community Acupuncture visit and review

On Wednesday I went for my first visit and treatment of acupuncture. Here are some pics and the review I left on Yelp.

My Yelp review:
This was my first visit to an acupuncture clinic so I am basing my review of a "first timer's" experience.

I was recommended to this place by a friend and was able to book my appointment online at their website, beachcommunityacupuncture.com

For being in OB the parking is pretty easy. If you can't find something street side they do have a lot in the back which is nice.

The center is upstairs and is easy to find with good signage. Inside the decor is nice, clean and very relaxing looking.

The acupuncturist (??) was super friendly when we met and got all of the paperwork done and out of the way with no stress. Her vision about serving the community and the sliding scare are great! A great person who is helping.

Walking back to the open treatment area I had a choice of places to sit. I choose one next to a window and was able to enjoy the natural light. The chairs recline but not how you would think. There is no lever, you just lean back. That seemed to throw everyone I saw who tried to recline the first time.

As the area is open you get to view the other patients. I had no problem with this, it was not intrusive at all. She also did a great job of keeping things quiet and private as possible. Though I would turn the music down just one click or two in the volume.

As it was my first time we talked about why I was there, what I wanted and how my treatment would progress. All my questions were answered.

Needles. Yikes. Was I really going to do this? It all worked out OK. She has great needle technique and every time I made a face or winced she talked me through it. (like most, I am a wuss about needles. especially watching them be placed in me)

Treatment is over when you feel it is over. I sat for about a hour with my needles in place. I felt relaxed, better and in a little less pain. I will definitely continue a course of treatment there.

I could not have asked for a better experience. 5 stars.

Pictures, definitely not the most flattering

PJ tiene mas cojones

I saw the most gusty thing in a llllllllooooonnnnnnggggggg time today. PJ and I were out at Ted Williams, a downhill and dirt jump place where we were in over our heads.

We had been playing around on the smallest stuff there and starting to feel a little sure of ourselves. Eye balling a few things we thought we could "make it."

Maybe we just really didn't know what in the heck we were talking about. PJ just up and decides to do this HUGE gap jump. On his older XC style mountain bike. In very minimal protective gear, just a xc helmet and full finger gloves.

He went for it, had the speed, had the height but the landing was just the littlest bit off. Hits the end of his bike and the dirt at a pretty good clip.

I was speechless. He totally was flying! He went from jumping about 3' in the air and about 6' out to hitting a ramp that had him 8' in the air and almost 18' out. Absolutely crazy. And beautiful for it.

I was left in awe and shaking my head. I couldn't even attempt it after watching him. And I of course forgot to hit 'record' on the camera.....

PJ, mad props to you! You earned that new pair of riding shorts!

yes, i said it..........

"So on my way home from the liquor store I jumped down the stairs at church. Then I went and got some Hot Tamales."

I mean, I'm rowdy, what can I say?

memorial vegas biking

most people who went to vegas over the holiday weekend spent it drunk, in the casino or by the pool.

four of us spent it in a suite at the j.w. marriott and riding our mountain bikes for hours each day and subsisting off what we had in our packs. and ice water.

the worst part of the trip? i ran into and over a cactus, filling the front of my right shoe with spines and both my tires. i suffered from about 8 flats in two days due to just never ever being able to get all the cactus spines out. NO one else had any flats but me. i am now a pro at patching and changing tubes on my new bike.

the second worst part? it took 8 hours to get back to san diego from vegas due to all the holiday traffic. maybe we should have been on this bus.......???(seen in barstow, as you could guess)

the third worst thing? barstow. anything and everything having to do with barstow. from the aggressive bums, poor food choices, gas stations with no hot tamales and so on.

to end on a good note, the good things.
-riding a new place. vegas actually has some good riding. i would go back one more time to hit a few trails i missed. i want to do the cowboy trails area, specifically 'bone shaker' and blue diamond again. then i want to go to boulder city and ride the 'bootleg canyon' area.

-using a friends camera mount. we got some pretty fun video. well, everyone but me. i was the camera man. i am buying one of these mounts for myself!

-getting a discount at the hotel. we got a $600 a night room for $150 a night. ssswweeett!

-going to the atomic test site museum. neat, fun, interesting and i learned something. very much worth it and a hidden gem in the crap that is most of vegas.

-making new friends. you never know when you go on a road trip with new people to vegas what will happen. but it is cool to have new friends who share the same interests. maybe something like this.....(don't think about it too much)

Big Laguna=big fun

One of my riding buddies is new to mnt biking so he had never really been to the only 'mountains' in SD county. So I of course had to take him up the the Lagunas and ride the main XC loop up there.

He appreciated the scenery and the chance to not crash his brains out. Oh wait, I'm riding with him. Of course you know that means I'm spending the whole ride looking around going, "hmmmmmm, I wonder if we could ride that? Jump off that?"

So we did a log ride that was about 20' long, rode up and over a few big boulders (which I could never quite pull off) and then jump off a few 2.5' ledges.

A is a good sport. I mean on our ride the day before he crashed good enough on a loose, rocky steep downhill he needed to buy a new helmet, cracking the first one all the way through!

Random pics of the ride. Boring, artistic, silly, you decide.

Part Two

You may remember the Monday post where I look like Tom Cruise in Minority Report with an eye surgery gone bad? Well it was all a clever ruse to distract me from the location of my birthday present.

After donning the sleeping mask, sunglasses and getting into the car it was off on a 5pm journey through traffic across town.

Being then lead into a building blind, hearing people kind of commenting on me but still unaware of my location the blindfolds are removed..............

and what is revealed.............????

What could it be??????????

Wait for it..............

Wooo Hoooo a new mountain bike!!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!
That is their test ride helmet, I would never own a yellow helmet!!

What a great gift!! Such dramatic delivery!! Flair!! Heck up until the last second I was unsure what I would be standing in front of. Awesome!!!

(normally i am the type to snoop, pry, poke and spy. or even just buy it myself outright in february and say 'this is my bday present'. so to pull this off is quite the coup)

and yes, that is me riding around wearing a headlamp into the night later that day

Fame

Normally my dreams are nightmares. Last night was a rare difference and all of the dreams has a common thread beyond me being chased by people trying to kill me.

Dream #1. I was on a movie set, Leonardo Di Caprio was the star and I was a co-star. We were hanging out on the set and it was Leo, Christopher Walkin and John Goodman. Everyone was doing impressions of the other, doing scenes from different movies they had been in and just laughing and goofing off. It was funny.

Dream #2. I was shopping at a store I used to work at in a town I used to live in at like 2am to avoid being noticed. When I leave the store I run into a woman I know at bjj who is in law enforcement. She tells me they are doing a big bust and that the guys would like to all meet me and I could then get a close up view of the action. And there is action! The suspects make a run for it, there is shooting, tear gas gets blown the wrong direction, I get shot at by a machine gun. All sorts of crazy "bank robbery in Heat" style stuff but neither side does anything to me really cause they recognize me.

Dream #3. I am a guest star on 30 Rock. I am a train conductor in Grand Central Station and I am trying to help Tracy Jordan sneak onto a train and out of NYC away fro his wife and some others. Hey, I could tell you the rest but when Tina Fey scripts your dreams, you just don't give it away.

So in my dreams on the eve of my fecha de naciamento I have reccurent dreams of being some sort of famous comedic personality.......

What does it all mean?
