Proven Medical Fact

Redheads require 20% more anesthesia than what most people require. This applies to local or general and applies even to thermal pain, not just from dental and medical procedures.

I wish my GI doc understood this..... And let's not get started on how most redheads are not really attractive either.

new to me...

I heard a new saying the other day training, "If you're going through Hell, keep going."

I like it!

otay peak truck trail

what not to watch

on truTV, 'most daring: wild women 3'

it doesn't get any better than this......

AV club

As a present for passing all my EMT stuff I bought myself my first mp3 player. No way was I going to give ANY money to apple so I bought a Sony MP3 Walkman. And cause I hate the whole mixing of music and computers I had M. put almost all of my music on my laptop and then load it onto my player.

So in my truck I have a small sub woofer, my XM service transfered with 18 presets and now my mp3 player near at hand!

Sano. Look it up.

1 of 8

What do you do when 8 people are in your place and you don't want to clean all of your glasses every day?
Foam letters!! This one says "Rowdstar" of course!

Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

I saw this recently at the gas station near my house. One is going to auction this summer and the reserve price is 6.5 million (better make that capital M Million).

Feast for Three

Go to the restaurant I spoke of earlier and order the "feast for three" and $45 later this is part of what you will be served. As the waitress said, "feast, indeed!"

Absolute Hell

I was at the DMV for 2 hours twenty minutes and I still didn't get to my number before I had to leave.

California DMV=hell on EarthThis is the line that I walked into for DMV trip day two... At least I was done in a little over two hours and two hundred dollars.

Watch This

"Shaun the Sheep" from the BBC. Watch it! Find it on DVD or the Disney Channel in the US.

so yeah.........

I passed my skills tests today for my EMT class. If you are having respiratory distress or a chest issue I am probably not your guy. But if you are having a baby, bleeding, a head injury or chest pain then I am your man!

I'm sure other things happened today.....I did clean out the garage and rearrange the garage. I'm not sure what else....

Oh, if you love middle eastern food then go to Hammurabi in El Cajon. It looks like they are hurting for business and the "Feast for Three" option truly is a feast! And delicious.

I can't wait to lay around on the couch tomorrow and watch WSBK and MotoGP tomorrow!!

Friday fun day

I know it is only a little ttr125 trail bike, heck the forks on my mnt bike are bigger with more travel, but it sure is fun!! (K I hope you love it!)

So MB, PM and AK and I went to Amago and rode around this morning. The gate person never showed so it was for free as well!! MB and PM both crashed after doing a set of doubles. They both made the double but then had too much speed for what was next. Guess who did to patient assessments today? Hahaha, good job, it was me!

Both were done riding after their little impacts with the ground, but the day was still enjoyed by all!! AK hadn't been on a motorcycle in over a decade and he still was jumping!

You can't make this stuff up....

Here are two of my dreams from last night...

The first was that through a video I posted on Youtube of me acting silly in a swimming pool Adam Sandler wanted to incorporate it into a performance he was doing.

So in basically a fancy above ground swimming pool I am supposed to fall under the water and lay on it's very fine sand covered bottom and act like I am having a seizure underwater.

We were practicing this in Israel and people were so mad at us they came to protest and throw rocks at us. So we had to have a barb wire fence put up and we were guarded by the IDF, dressed in pink pajamas.

The second was that a female member of the British royal family had an internet crush on me and would IM and email me all the time and never leave me alone and was totally in love with me. I thought it was just some crazy stalker until all the tabloids were at my front door one morning to get the story.

And you know the worst part? My alarm was set for 0600 but I woke up at 0541. RAWR! True story.

My Thursday night in pictures....

fireworks
roasted marshmallows

final exam

150 questions, cumulative review of the entire course and to be done in 2 hours.
My final score was 128/150 and I finished second in 1 hour thirty minutes. Saturday is the skills test and I should own that as well.

What really bothers me though is that people who did not score a passing grade still "passed" because, well...... I don't know. But you all know the type of situations I mean where people get a 'gimmie' 'cause it is just easier for everyone that way. Lame.

So skills test Saturday and then the NREMT exam in a few weeks after that! Bring on microbiology this fall!

Feliz Cumpleanos Mi Hermana!!

Happy Birthday M!! I miss ya and even love ya! (Just remember who always walked home with you from school when J wouldn't!)

Be careful what you poll for...

It might come true!

Can you guess? Yep, you are right, I shaved my legs this morning in anticipation of my next mountain bike race.

To me, a guy, now my legs look funny and feel funny. You voted and I did it.

Pictures soon...........If I get up the courage.

PS- if knees are the chin of shaving your legs, then ankles have got to be your adam's apple!

Bigfoot before
After using clippers to thin it all out. I almost took a pic of the pile of hair on the towel but who knows, you could be eating and reading this so I would hate to make you loose your lunch.
Going crazy, no turning back now!
Oh the embarrassment...

the interwebs bugs me today

so, how can i delete people off the little yahoo chat list that shows up on my mail page, dumb yahoo copying gmail and it is something i didn't want anyways? it adds people to the list but gives me no way to delete them? only blocking, but that doesnt remove me seeing them on my list. i'll have like 20 people on that list but really only 4 will matter to me at any give time.

and how come i can no longer browse or search blogs on here, blogger? one of the things i like is to read random blogs off of here and now i am no longer able to search or browse them. not fun!

-insert something funny here-

Today I am taking M to the airplane museum up at March AFB near Riverside. I am also studying for my EMT final tomorrow.

I agree with Ron Paul on something (rare) that health care is NOT a right. And the idea of "just tax rich people more, make them pay for it, they can afford it" is a knee jerk liberal simplistic response set to appeal to the lowest denominator in the masses. I like the saying that goes, "I've seen government housing, I don't want to see government healthcare."

Last night's mountain bike ride was 14 miles, 12 of them climbing. Some of the group was struggling so we finished when it was dark. None of us with lights of course.

Updating other personal stuff, I should be done with EMT school on Saturday after my skills test final. Then I have to take a national registry test a week or so after that. I am also waiting to hear if I will be taking a friend's job if he gets a promotion. This would be awesome as it is in the motorcycle field and I think I would really enjoy it. And I looked harder at the entry requirements for Physician Assistant programs in the Western US and most of them require you to take the GRE, have a year of chemistry w/ lab or at least biochem and organic chem along with microbiology. I have none of these! So that would mean a year of college down here before I could apply again, which would mean another year delay in starting!! As you don't start till a year after you apply! FREAK! I am not happy about that. It is very disheartening and once a stinking again I am unsure of what to do and unhappy about school/job stuff. I felt sooo good about the EMT course as a way to bolster my PA school application and it looks like it really doesn't mean anything. Oh, and most places want you to have graduated from college in the past 5 years. I graduated from college in 2002, so seven years ago.

I wish I could just be at peace with certain aspects of my situation, but I am not.
All I really know for work is stacking produce and nuclear medicine.

A wonderful, rowdy idea......

I think next week sometime, or even sooner, me and a bunch of friends should find a grassy hillside and lay down about 100' of plastic, spray it down with water and dish soap, throw on our suits and slip slide it away in a major fashion!!!

Who's down?

(a smaller version of this)

Riding the UCSD Rimac bike trails through the eucalyptus.

Saturday was a free day so we all decided to ride mnt bikes on an easy trail. Something I had heard was easy but had never done was the trails through the Par Course near the Rimac at UCSD. I switched the SPD pedals out of the other bikes, fitted M to my hard tail and gave him a few practice runs on my new jump. Then off we went!

It was fun. I would go there again for an easy beginner style ride. Also if you park on a weekend or after 6PM you don't have to pay for parking, in spite of what the signs say.

By noon is was so warm and since we were close to the Shores we thought we would just buzz into Ross and buy cheap towels and swimsuits and head over and cool off. Just like 10 thousand other people it seems!! I had to park farther away than I ever have, EVER! And just 'cause it is in La Jollla, Ross is still Ross and it was pretty ghetto in there. (this was the day we saw the fat guy naked at the beach posted about earlier)

Anyways, some biking pictures!

Ambulance Ride Along & rant

So I spent 12 hours Sunday on an ambulance out in East County as part of the requirements for my EMT class. While it was a hot day and I started to get a little car sick riding around in the back I did get to see quite a bit of stuff, where some of my class mates had to simulate patient experiences I had all I needed before dinner time!

People say we need "Universal Healthcare" but we really already have it! Call 911, the ambulance shows up and it goes like this, "Do you have insurance?"

"No."

"Ok, get in the ambulance let's take you to the hospital. Where do you work? Do you have a doctor? Are you a US citizen?"

"I don't, nope and no."

"Ok, we're at the hospital let's go inside and get you taken care of."

People talk about it being a "right" but yet soooooooooooo few people then exercise the other side of the coin for rights, responsibilities. Yep, with every right is a responsibility. If you think healthcare is a "right" then you need to do all you can to be healthy. No smoking, no alcohol, no drugs, no fast food and exercise. If you can't do those things you shouldn't get a damn thing for free.

Long time readers will know I like pictures, so here you go:

pnt1:diabetic iv drug user who fell off the wagon after 40 days and was totally drunk with blood glucose of 400+, found at a hotel.

pnt2:heroin user who was totally drunk and barely responsive, with cigarette burns in their clothes who only 5 hours earlier had been discharged from the hospital due to alcohol abuse. this person also stated they just wanted to die.

pnt3:old person with an altered mental status who fell trying to get in the shower and maybe hit their head. there are on blood thinners so off to the trauma center for a head CT. the pic is the one of the spine board being turned on its' side so they can vomit. they also had a possible broken foot.

pnt4:post traumatic brain injury with left sided weakness. addicted to oxycontin. complaining of back pain a week after a fall and pain 10/10. requesting to be taken to hospital because, "i just cant take it anymore!"

pnt5:a car accident happened. one of the occupants walked to a nearby house to get a drink of water. everyone else at the scene gets taken care of. this pnt shows up after all the ambulances are gone and we have to be called back to get them. now this person is complaining of chest pain. c spine and trauma center here we go again.
