For the rest of the year I am looking forward to seeing The Hobbit, Skyfall, Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty primarily.
But tonight I went to see Argo. I don't care who you are, go watch this movie. People clapped in the movie before it was even at the ending. Yep, it arouses that much emotion.
And then when you go home, download or order Mark Bowden's excellent book, "Guests of the Ayatollah" and read it to quench your thirst for understanding of the Iran Hostage Crisis.

No Les Miserables or Anna Karenina? I want to see both of those, but would like to finish the books first, no I have never read them. I'm sure that makes me an incomplete human being... So I probably won't get to see them until next summer :/
ReplyDeleteI've never watched a Bond movie, I would like to, but I don't know which one to start with.
I did just see the preview for Les Mis. To be honest, I feel it is totally melodramatic. It is jut sooo much, toooo much over the top with the drama and emotions. I coudln't even get more than 100 pages into the book before I quit.But........ I did agree to go see this one. Just 'cause.
ReplyDeleteAK is a maybe. My tastes in Russian literature are pretty narrow. Gulag Archipelago is probably my fav. Dostoevsky is also pretty good.
As far as Bond.... start with Dr No and then Gold Finger. Watch the Daniel Craig ones last. In the middle I would suggest Thunderball, View to a Kill, Living Daylights, Goldeneye and maybe two more early ones. That would give you an idea why the Sean Connery ones are soo beloved, the ones from the 80s and 90s reviled and why the brutish D Craig ones seem modern classics and the very best.
