For some reason this baby was obsessed with staring at my red hair. She would not stop looking at me even when others were holding her.

Mundials 2011

Atos as a team was 3rd place overall for the Mundials aka the World Championships of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.jiu jitsu playboy.....(thanks for the horrible nick name Andre!)

Camp Pendleton Mud Run 2011

We look like a boy band here...

Dr Sombrero and I
A clean before pic
Less words, more pictures, no action. If I do this again next year I will take a waterproof disposable camera for on-the-go pictures and a garden hose for my own clean up after. The lines for the showers were almost 50 meters long....

more words, fewer pictures and action. sadly.

Thursday I can't even remember. So must not have done much or I hit my head hard sometime during the day......

Friday I went with the Mighty Hawaiian and his daughter up to the World Championship of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Long Beach. It was pleasant to hang out with them and have someone else drive.

I got to hang out with my Atos crew and I felt ready. I was in the bull pen farrrrrrr to long though as my mat was running behind. Put it this way, I had over a 101 degree fever and lost two pounds just waiting for my first match. Yeah, a two hour wait. Dumb.

Even dumber was my performance. I got worked positionally by my opponent. My mind is still too slow. I simply just haven't trained enough to match up well at this level of competition. But I did better than last year, so I'm happy with that. And I'm hardly 100%. But yeah, I got armbarred at about 5:30 of a 7 minute fight and lost.

Then it was time for 4 pieces of pizza, a soda, a gatorade and some kettle corn. Then it was DQ for a treat on the way home. And that night was a friend's birthday party where I had about 6 "virgin" mixed drinks and 4 super freaking delicious street tacos.

Saturday was the "World Famous" Camp Pendleton Mud Run. There were a few glitches getting there but we eventually got to the right place and hooked up with our team. No real offense to this group of people, but I have to say that computer programmers and other nerds do not make the best group to draw entrants from for a 10k race in the sun involving running, hills, water crossings, mud and an obstacle.

I ran with Dr Sombrero right up to about 1/2 mile from the finish where I stopped to wait for my team and he ran in for his individual finish. Completing the whole freaking race in a perfectly dry and clean sombrero. NICE.

45 minutes later and a few hundred people going past, one lady almost puking on my shoes, the team finally all caught up. Even the ones who puked and were limping. But they warriored up and finished. We were all smiling and telling our story and enjoying the experience.

The place seeems more set up for the party afterward than the real race. Warrior Dash was more challenging for the runner. I will for sure pay to do that one again and will hopefully be asked back to fill out a corporate team for Pendleton next year.

Oh, and I ate a CA buritto and ice cream on the way back. And bought a new car. And watched the new x men movie.

Today will be watching the MotoGP race in Barcelona, the finals of the Mundials for black belts, maybe the French Open, going to church and possibly back to the Hawaiian's house.

There ya go, lots of words about what I did, a little bit of action in it and no pictures as of yet. But rest assured there will be some. Maybe even a shirtless one or two. hahahahahhaa.

complex, low output fistula

Ok, looks like most people are agreeing my CT today showed an enterocutaneous fistula. For you non medical people that is a small tunnel between my guts and the outside of my body.
Normally this is easy to diagnose as the fistula has a high output of material, you lose weight and feel horrible. Mine did not and has not presented that way.

How do you fix it? Manage it? From my study it seems like you deal with any pressing health issues first like infection or dehydration. Then you control the output, either with medications or going on TPN (getting everything through a special iv line, not eating anything by mouth. for as long as it takes) or surgery if nothing else works.

From my CT scan this morning it apprears I have a fistula from an intestinal surgical site up to and through the scar where my stoma was taken down on my right side.

As I don't feel horrible, I'm able to eat and not lose weight and time has done nothing to heal the fistula an interventional path has been proposed for the next course of action.

To my understanding I am going to go to Super D's part of the hospital. They will stick a little catheter in the hole leaking stuff out of my side and inject contrast into it. If they see a tract they can clearly visualize then a surgeon of the IR doctor will inject a fancy super glue into it to shut it down and close it up.

I have no idea yet how long this takes, complications, if it hurts or anything like that. But that is what has been proposed. Now you know just as much as I do.

But only about this. I know lots about lots of other stuff, so don't even try it.

Ugh

You know it is gonna be a rough night and following day when you're starting to count how many pain pills you have left.
Feeling sick, horrible. Fell into a rough sleep and felt this googe out of my scar. YUK. I hope my CT scan shows where this is coming from.

Every ride has a beginning. This was mine.
In the things tough for me in mnt biking climbing rocky switchbacks is #3. That is why I am sitting.

I wonder what it would cost for something like this in my back yard? I looked all over it for some sort of identifying information and could find none. I might have to email the Parks Dept for the city of San Marcos to see where they bought it.
